Case Studies in Model Validation and Implementation in the Primary Processing of Titanium

V. Venkatesh, TIMET-R&D,, Henderson, NV; M. Kamal, TIMET Toronto, Toronto, OH

The use of finite element (FEA) based models coupled with key microstructure and damage predictions has helped the design and development of titanium processing. Similarly, thermodynamic models are becoming important in Titanium alloy design and subsequent processing. Three case studies that utilize DEFORM FEA and PANDAT thermodynamic models will be presented. Validation and implementation of these models in the forging, rolling and heat treatment of Titanium will be discussed.

Summary: Validation/process design results from three Titanium modeling case studies will be presented. Specificaly, these will include forging, rolling and heat treatment of Titanium. Utilization of key microstructure, phase proportion and damage model predictions in the optimization of Titanium processing will be discussed.
