Coatings Structure of Nano-Zirconia Elaborated by Plasma Spray Sol Process

H. Yang, L. Z. Chen, Xi'an Research Institute of High Technology, Xi’an, China

A nanostructured zirconia coatings was elaborated by plasma spray sol process. Elaboration process of sol and coatings was introduced, and the phase composition and microstructure of the coatings and powders dried from sol was observed by XRD and SEM. The results show that Non-crystal was obtained by dry sol spontaneously, while crystal structure by heat, and the coatings was mixed crystal structure of monocline and cubic by plasma spray. The coatings was composed of dense blocks formed by better melted particles and micro-cracks. The fine grain nanostructured zirconia coatings can be obtained.
