Kinetic MetallizationTM - Coating Development System

R. Tapphorn, H. Gabel, J. A. Henness, Inovati, Santa Barbara, CA

Inovati developed and introduced the KM-Coating Development System (KM-CDS) as turnkey research tool to allow academia, government, and industrial researchers the opportunity to investigate and develop unique coatings using the Kinetic Metallization process. The KM-CDS has been marketed on a worldwide basis with an optional 6-axis robot that permits spray deposition of coatings and spray forming of small components within a spray enclosure cabinet. This presentation will review the highlights and capabilities of the latest model configured with mass flow controllers to permit computerized process control and gas mixing. A unique powder fluidization technique permits feeding of ultra-fine and agglomerating powders. Coatings and spray formed products produced with the KM-CDS will be presented along with corresponding material properties.

Summary: Kinetic MetallizationTM is a low temperature particle impact process that permits deposition of coatings and spray forming of parts and components. Inovati developed the Kinetic Metallization - Coating Development System as a tool for researchers to investigate and develop applications using the technology. This presentation will review the technology, process, and equipment.
