HVOF Requirements – Landing Gear Application

Messier-Dowty operates one thermal spray booth at its Ajax facility and is purchasing HVOF coated (Tungsten carbide – cobalt – chrome) components for the Airbus 400M, the Airbus 380 Nose Landing Gear, the Falcon 7X, the Boeing 787 and the Airbus programs.

 

The presentation will review the qualification process for suppliers, highlight the issues / concerns encountered over the last 24 months during the B787 program ramp-up and the initial stage of the A350 program in light of the Messier Dowty expansion which requires experience thermal spray shop in a wide range of countries..  Finally, a special focus will be made on additional requirements for which M-D is expecting the thermal spray industry to address and resolve.  Such requirements includes thermal spray in non line of sight areas and cadmium replacement.
