Summary: We simulated the thermomechanical history of different regions of an HSLA-65 friction stir weld using the Hickory (2D) mathematical model of the process and GleebleŽ simulations. We compared the simulated microstructures and microhardnesses with those in an actual weld to validate the simulation and model results and approximate the actual thermomechanical histories leading to the observed structures.
