PAM Processed Single-Melt Titanium Alloys

K. O. Yu, E. M. Crist, RMI Titanium Company, Niles, OH

Plasma arc melting (PAM) process offers an opportunity to produce low cost titanium alloys by utilizing a single melting step practice. This presentation describes RMI’s efforts in developing PAM processed single-melt titanium mill products. Ti-6Al-4V plates and sheets were rolled from rectangular slabs. In addition, extruded shapes of Ti-6Al-4V and rolled bars of Beta-CÔ were made from round ingots. Processing procedures and product microstructures and mechanical properties will be presented.
