Breakthrough Technologies in Titanium Refinement Methods

Summary: Dr. Leo Christodoulou is a Program Manager in the Structural Materials R&D area of the DARPA Defense Sciences Office. He has an extensive background in materials processing and its influence on the microstructure and properties of materials, with expertise in the synthesis, processing and performance of metallic, intermetallic, and composite materials. He is the co-inventor and primary developer of a class of materials known as XD Alloys and a co-inventor on more than 20 U.S. Patents and their foreign equivalents. Dr. Christodoulou holds B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Metallurgy from Imperial College of Science, Technology, and Medicine, London, England – the same college at which he was conferred the title of “Reader, Materials Processing and Performance.” In 1998, he was appointed Visiting Professor at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Dr. Christodoulou has authored or co-authored more than 60 technical papers and has received numerous awards and recognition for his work in metallurgy and materials science.
