The Boeing 7E7: An Update

R. R. Boyer, R. D. Briggs, The Boeing Company, Seattle, WA

View in WORD format

Summary:

The 7E7 will be a very unique aircraft for its size and function – the first intercontinental commercial aircraft for which the wings, skin and empennage will be fabricated from polymer matrix composites. Needless to say this has a profound effect on the materials mix in such an aircraft. The rationale for this type of construction and an update on construction materials and fabrication processes will be discussed.
