Summary:

A relatively recent technique for localized grain refinement is Friction Stir Processing (FSP), which is based on the well-established Friction Stir Welding (FSW) method. For this study AA 5052 was friction stir processed and characterized using orientation imaging microscopy. This presentation will investigate the changes in microstructure and texture, as well as the void evolution as related to the processing parameters (rotation and translation speeds).
