Joining and Additive Manufacturing for Titanium Alloys

I. D. Harris, EWI, Columbus, OH

Novel technologies for titanium joining and additive manufacturing (AM) will be presented, including CMT GMAW, GMAW-P, hot wire GTAW (GTAW-HW) hybrid arc and hybrid laser arc welding (HLAW).  Progress with the development of very high power ultrasonic additive manufacturing (VHP UAM) for titanium alloys will aslo be presented.  The features, benefits, and applications of these process with be compared for joining and additive manufacturing.

The status and developments within the Additive Manufacturing Consortium (AMC) will also be reviewed.  AMC is a consortium of OEM, supplier, and service bureax companies, along with government agencies and key universities that are collaborating to increase the manufacturing readiness of metals AM technologies.
