Properties of TIMETAL 18 – A New High-Strength Titanium Forging Alloy

J. Fanning, TIMET, Henderson, NV

A new near-beta alloy with a nominal composition (weight percent) of Ti-5.5Al-5V-5Mo-2.4Cr-0.75Fe-0.15O [TIMETAL 18] has been developed by TIMET to provide good combinations of properties in heavy sections. This paper summarizes the results of recent studies on the microstructure, tensile properties, fracture toughness, and fatigue of forged products.
