ATI 425 Alloy in Precision Rolled Strip(r) Products

A. K. (. Miller, T. J. Matway, D. A. Shaner, ATI Allegheny Ludlum, Natrona Heights, PA

The unique properties of ATI 425® Alloy titanium provide high strength and excellent hot and cold formability for some of the most demanding applications in aerospace and general industry.  ATI's Precision Rolled Strip® Business Unit has successfully cold rolled strip in gauges as thin as 0.002."  Initial end-use application targets include; honeycomb structures, insulation systems, heat exchangers, as well as various medical products.  This alpha/beta titanium alloy breakthrough provides engineers a high strength alternative in thin gauge applications where aluminum, steel and CP titanium coil have been the only viable choices.

Thin gauge strip from 0.002” to 0.020” is cold rolled into tight tolerance, long length continuous coils with superior surface quality.  ATI 425 alloy precision strip can be a direct substitution on existing continuous processing lines where other metal coils or sheets are used as starting raw material.

This paper will present the properties and benefits of ATI 425® Alloy as Precision Rolled Strip along with plans for future development.
