Update on the Development of Aerospace Extruded Products at Alcoa

L. Yocum, Alcoa Engineered Products, Lafayette, IN; D. Denzer, Alcoa Inc, Alcoa Technical Center, PA; R. J. Rioja, Alcoa, Inc., Alcoa Center, PA; E. Colvin, Alcoa Inc, Lafayette, IN

The performance of C99N-T8E83, C99N-T8E85, 2099-T8E29 and 2099-T8E67extruded products is covered in detail. It is proposed that these new alloy/temper combinations cover a large range of structural applications in aircraft construction. These range from stringers for lower and upper wings to fuselage stringers and frames and seat tracks. Comparisons of performance against their respective incumbents highlight the potential weight savings that can be achieved with the use of these advanced new products.
