Driven by the requirement for increased efficiency commercial transport, the aviation segment of the aerospace industry is entering a period of rapid technology maturation and product introduction. The NASA-focused segment of the space industry has also entered a period of change - butt one that is more associated with increased uncertainty in terms of future missions and vehicle architectures. Given the unique characteristics of launch vehicle and in-space products (high reliability, extreme environment and typically low production volume) material and processes technology can be pervasive across a broad range of space product applications and represent a wise opportunity for near-term technology development and investment as customers establish product needs and mission requirements. This talk will provide an OEM's perspective on the current space market and technology opportunities for near term investment and maturation.
