Overview:

Joining technologies remain a critical tool in the drive for reducing part count, cost affordability and excess raw material use. The reduction in assembly time and fastener count is a primary cause for continuing interest in joining technologies. New techniques for friction stir welding are being developed, laser welding and electron beam welding continues to make technical advancements, and additive manufacturing shows promise in cost reduction. These sessions cover recent work and ongoing development activities in the welding and joining technologies field for the aerospace industry.
