Kinetic Metallization provides a low-temperature and low-pressure impact consolidation deposition process for coating and dimensional restoration. Inovati has developed specialized deposition guns to coat the interior surface of cylinders down to 3.5in inside diameter with bore depth to diameter ratios exceeding 10-to-1. This allows deposition of wear and corrosion resistant coatings to the ID surfaces as well as dimensional restoration of worn or damaged substrate material. The full range of KM coatings is deposited with this system, including carbide coatings for wear resistance, superalloys for corrosion or oxidation protection, and structural materials for rebuilding damaged substrate. This presentation will describe the KM deposition equipment and process developed for the ID applications, and results of tests completed to qualify these types of coatings and repairs.
