Although superplasticity in magnesium alloys was first demontrated in the late 1960's it has,as yet, found very few

'fully-fledged' commercial applications. The lightweight attributes of magnesium and magnesium alloys are well known

as are their cold forming limitations. Considerable R&D and application studies are currently in-hand to evaluate the

potential for SPF magnesium.

This presentation reviews progress todate and explores technical and economic factors that will influence the direction

and pace of the commercialization of SPF magnesium.
