Results from the development of a new alloy from Alcoa, designated as C24S, will be presented and discussed. Design values for “S” allowables have been generated and will be presented. Results from fatigue, toughness crack growth and corrosion testing will be examined in detail as they impact the performance of a fuselage structure. Manufacturability issues will also be covered. Finally next steps in commercialization such as alloy and temper registration and insertion of allowables into AMS and MMPDS documents will be covered.
