Titanium 6AL-4V extrusions used for airframe structural components are extruded in the beta range using glass lubrication and flat extrusion dies. The components are used with a beta microstructure and are governed by AMS 4935.

In order to address an industry trend toward the use of near net shapes, Nu-Tech has developed and supplied alpha beta processed titanium extrusions intended to meet AMS 4928 .  The author will review the production techniques and mechanical properties of these extrusions and discuss the current level of industry acceptance and framework within the AMS Specification system.
