There are a wide variety of additive manufacturing techniques being used in the aerospace, automotive, medical, electronics and power generation industries, and many future opportunities will present themselves. This presentation will cover the work TWI has been doing over the last 8 years in the area of laser additive manufacturing, reviewing blown powder and powder bed/selective laser melting techniques and equipment. Public domain examples of work carried out for industrial customers will be presented and discussed.
In addition there will be a review of electron beam additive manufacturing techniques (powder bed and wire deposition (EBFFF) and arc based deposition techniques. A look towards the future will also be taken, to consider the implications of larger additive manufacturing machines and areas of industrial interest.
