Ti-5Al-4V-0.75Mo-0.5Fe alloy (Ti-54M) is an alpha/beta titanium alloy developed at TIMET. General mechanical properties of this alloy are very similar to Ti54M, and machinability of Ti54Mis superior to Ti64 for most machining conditions. This paper presents a brief overview of Ti54M along with specific details of hot workability characteristics and compares the results to that of Ti-64 and other titanium alloys. Elevated temperature tensile tests and isothermal compression tests were performed in the temperature range 1450F to 1750F at various strain rates ranging from 10-3/s to 1/s. Flow stress characteristics, hot tensile ductility and microstructural observations are discussed.
