VSMPO widely uses skull furnaces for Russian customers which allows VSMPO to involve a lot of scrap, these furnaces have excellent fining capabilities against all types of metallurgical defects and allow to melt ingots in all titanium alloys used in aircraft industry. To confirm ingot quality and high refining capability VSMPO carried out 3 melts with seeding of defects per GEAE technology and there were no defects on 2 heats. That was 6-4 alloy. The 3-rd heat (6-2-4-6) is now in production.
