Kaiser Aluminum has developed the new high strength thick plate alloy AA7099 to meet the needs of today’s current, derivative and future aircraft design needs.  KaiserSelect® 7099 plate products were developed to address both higher material performance and lower manufacturing part cost needs in primary structural applications such as wing ribs, wing spars, fuselage frames and fuselage floor structures as well as secondary structural components such as fittings, doublers, and cabin opening structures.

AA7099 can be used both as a drop in replacement in current and derivative aircraft as well as in future aircraft structures where significant light weighting over conventional plate is required.  The defining characteristics of the AA7099 products are increased strength in the thickness range of 1 to 6 inches in combination with damage tolerant and corrosion properties that are at least equivalent to current aluminum plate offerings.  7099-T7451 is the more damage tolerant and corrosion resistant temper while 7099-T7651 offers even higher strength gains.  Both T7451 and T7651 temper products are at a maturity level where design allowables have been generated and are available for use.  A T7351 temper product is in development for future usage for those applications that require even superior damage tolerant properties for thicknesses up to 6 inches.

The AA7099 plate products are being developed using the KaiserSelect® methodology.  As such, these plate products will have the inherent KaiserSelect® characteristics of increased flatness, lot to lot consistency, and low internal residual stress to reduce part manufacturing costs.  This presentation will focus on current maturity of both the 7099-T7651 and 7099-T7451 plate products.
