Recent commercial aircraft programs such as Airbus A350XWB and Bombardier CSeries selected AIRWARE® technology for primary structure parts. Metal quantities per airframe are significant, so that investments were needed to respond to the market needs. Thanks to this increased volume, industrial experience is improving rapidly and an excellent platform for future product development from a material point of view could be implemented.

The lessons learned internally, and in the customer manufacturing and assembly processes, enrich the product and technology development and further extension of the Constellium product portfolio. Concerning fuselage applications, AIRWARE® 2198 sheets, AIRWARE® 2196 extrusions and AIRWARE® 2050 plates are the reference products for the AIRWARE® technology, all produced with industrial quantities and already presented in previous Aeromat conferences.

After sharing recent program experiences, the latest developments in materials for skin, stiffeners, frames, seat tracks, floor beams and other structural fuselage applications are presented. Use of these materials within advanced design and assembly concepts will illustrate the large potential for further weight reductions in fuselage structures. These lightweight solutions, derived from Constellium’s high performance AIRWARE® technology, are consistent with Constellium’s sustainability approach. All solutions are fully recyclable and provide the best combination of performance, sustainability and cost for new aircraft programs.
