The properties, including fracture toughness and fatigue strength, and examples of extruded, forged and HIP’d product forms of aluminum MMC’s will be described.  The manufacturing method specifically uses a high energy milling process to disperse micron to sub-micron sized silicon carbide particles.  The materials made with this method have been used in the high performance automotive industry for several years.   Aerospace industry specifications are being developed.  Advantages of advanced materials from this genesis include high strength, high modulus and low density.
