Mr. Mike Bond , Aeromet International PLC, Worcester, United Kingdom
Aeromet International PLC are a global leader in the casting of aluminium and magnesium alloys for critical components used by the aerospace and defence industries.

Aeromet International PLC has developed, patented, received aerospace approval and brought into serial production, A20X.   It is the world’s strongest production grade aluminium cast alloy, providing wrought aluminium properties, with all the advantages of net shape castings.  The fine grain structure and strengthening mechanism provides high mechanical, fatigue, corrosion and superior elevated temperature properties.

A20X can be atomised with a defined powder distribution.  It shows remarkable properties and is finding powder metallurgical uses in the aerospace and other industries.  Aeromet have undertaken extensive development of A20X as a new and exciting wrought product.   The development of a fine “as cast” structure, with grain boundary pinning, makes it an ideal starting point for deformation process. It extrudes relatively easy and with high deformation rates and good surface quality.  It rolls well in to thin sheet form.  The starting grain size and subsequent deformation, has resulted in classic superplastic forming properties.  The product is strain rate dependant and has extensive ductility. The strengthening mechanism results in a superior superplastically formed aluminium alloy part.
