As Aerospace customers have been challenged with a rapidly changing market, this has created a demand for aircraft with superior materials performance.  To meet these needs, Kaiser Aluminum has expanded its investment in research and development to support these new platforms.  Kaiser Aluminum R&D is focused on meeting the needs of customers and has recently developed a number of new KaiserSelect® sheet, plate, and extrusion products for current, derivative and future aircraft design requirements.

The portfolio of new products include 7099-T7451 and 7099-T7651 plate products, a new 7XXX thick section plate alloy, Al-Cu-Li sheet, Al-Cu-Li plate, Al-Cu-Li extrusions, and a new 7XXX extruded product.  These new KaiserSelect® products are designed to replace the current aerospace incumbent products by offering increased mechanical performance along with an excellent damage tolerance and corrosion balance to facilitate aircraft lightweighting.

The products are also being engineered to minimize their acquisition costs (especially for Al-Cu-Li products) while maintaining the KaiserSelect® signature performance of providing the customer with overall lower manufacturing cost accrued during part fabrication and assembly.  Part applications include primary structural components such as wing ribs, wing spars, fuselage frames and fuselage floor structures as well as secondary structural components such as fittings, doublers, and cabin opening structures where significant light weighting over current products is required.

This presentation will summarize these new KaiserSelect® product developments.
