AMT AG (Dottingen, Switzerland) has designed a new low pressure coating system (LPCS) for plasma spraying of aerospace gas turbine engine applications. An increase in global air transportation has necessitated the increased use of low pressure plasma spray coatings for aerospace turbine engine applications around the world. AMT AG has designed the new LPCS plasma spray facility for the application of MCrAlY and subsequent TBC coatings for such parts. Coatings produced using the LPCS system provides improved oxidation protection to gas turbine engine components using these coatings.
The LPCS consists of a main vacuum process chamber, two load-locks for part loading and unloading, a gun drive (sting), two work-piece manipulators (sting), and a 2000 amperage plasma spray system.
Experiments will be performed to examine coating properties as a function of plasma spray parameters. Microstructure and mechanical property evaluations will be conducted for the LPCS produced coatings.
