Owing to the attractive properties, such as low density, high stiffness, high yield strength and good creep resistance, TiAl based alloys exhibit great potential for high-temperature applications in aerospace and power generation industries . However, some of their properties still need to be improved, especially the insufficient ductility at room temperature and poor oxidation resistance at temperatures above 1073 K. The TiAl3 coat was prepared by deposition of Al, Al/Al2O3, or Al/Ti by cold spray and heat-treatment. The isothermal oxidation tests were conducted at 1173 K. The microstructure and composition of the TiAl alloy with and without the TiAl3 coatings after oxidation were investigated. The results showed that the TiAl3 coatings improved the oxidation resistance of TiAl alloy effectively.
