ATI has supplied the aerospace community for over twenty years with several grades of titanium-based wire for fastener applications, including ATI 6-4™ alloy, ATI 425® alloy, ATI 45Nb™ alloy, and ATI 3-2.5™ alloy. These alloys are typically used in conjunction with one another to build a fastener system that maximizes the benefits of each alloy’s unique properties.  Some components require strength, while others may require large formability, or capability at higher use-temperatures.

This presentation will focus on recent work to characterize the mechanical properties, formability, microstructure, and deformation characteristics of several of the alloys ATI produces in wire. Electron backscattered diffraction and metallography will be used in conjunction with mechanical testing to demonstrate differences between alloys and microstructural conditions.
