Alclad 2029 sheet is targeted as a replacement for Alclad 2524-T3 and as a direct competitor to newer Al-Li sheet for fuselage skin application.  Because 2029 does not contain Li, it is cast using the same equipment as 2x24 and processed in a similar manner as 2x24 sheet.  Alclad 2029 sheet and thin plate up to 0.6 inch is available in three tempers:  2029-T8 offers higher strength, higher toughness, and better corrosion resistance relative to 2524-T3 while offering similar FCG resistance.  Alclad 2029-T3E49 provides improved FCG resistance compared to 2524-T3 with similar strength and toughness and 2029-T3E39 has superior stretch formability compared to 2524-T3.  For the T8 temper,  more than 70 lots of Alclad 2029-T8 have been produced, representing over 15 unique chemistries.  Statistical analysis has been performed on both static and damage tolerance property data, to derive specification minima and material property allowables.  The superior fracture toughness of the T8 temper relative to 2524-T3 has been demonstrated across various specimen panel sizes.  The T8 temper has been registered with the Aluminum Association, an AMS Specification (AMS4272) has been granted, and material allowables are approved and will be have been published in MMPDS-11.
