Arconic is actively advancing technology for additive manufacturing in multiple alloy systems and processes to provide material solutions for the aerospace industry.  The Ampliforge™ process is a hybrid process which combines additive manufacturing with forging.  The process utilizes custom designed additive manufactured preforms as the raw material stock for the forging process.  The resulting forged product improves the mechanical properties of the additively manufactured materials and can reduce the overall cost and lead time of the forged product by reducing raw material and eliminating forging operations.  This presentation will provide an overview of Arconic’s additive manufacturing technology and how these capabilities are being applied to produce additive manufactured components, including Ampliforge™ preforms.  The presentation will also provide results of Ampliforge™ trials including mechanical property characterization and developments in inspection techniques towards qualification of the Ampliforge™ process for aerospace components.
