High temperature forging and forming presents unique challenges and requires novel solutions due to the effect that these temperatures have on traditional lubricants. Glass lubricants used as a precoat on the billet has proven beneficial in providing lubrication, insulation, and oxidation protection, however, they do no address high temperature die lubrication. Prince has developed a White Die Lubricant that can be used in conjunction with glass lubricants, or as a stand-alone lubricant to provide further friction reduction between die and billet, as well as, extend die life. This presentation will present an overview of the technology, including case studies.
