Surface preparation and final coatings on aerospace and structural materials are critical for performance and long-term functionality.  Data for an environmentally sustainable surface cleaning and preparation technique prior to and along with a coating application will be presented.  This versatile damage resistant coating utilizes a flexible application methodology and produces a ductile, high temperature resistant surface.  The coating is aqueous-based and can be inspected and readily removed or repaired in the green form.   After final cure, this coating has protected substrate materials up to 1850 F for over 25 minutes.  The coating also exhibits excellent wear resistance and has been used to coat bearing surfaces on race car axels.  At high and extreme temperatures the coating behaves as an ablative semi-ceramic surface.  Several applications in various fields will be presented.
