RECENT PROGRESS of TIMETAL® 54M (Ti-5Al-4V-0.75Mo-0.5Fe) for SPF-DB APPLICATIONS

TIMETAL^®54M (Ti-5Al-4V-0.75Mo-0.5Fe) or Ti-54M is an alpha/beta titanium alloy developed by TIMET. Earlier technical publications have demonstrated that Ti-54M sheets exhibit superior SPF (superplastic forming) capabilities compared to Ti-6Al-4V (Ti-64), in terms of flow stress, temperature and strain rate. Recent progress on the industrialization of Ti-54M sheets and an alloy modification work of Ti-54M targeting enhanced elevated temperature properties, while maintaining low temperature SPF capability will be introduced and discussed.
