Beyond Scalmalloy - Next Steps towards higher Performance Al-Alloys for Laser Powderbed-Fusion Solutions

The Airbus AlMgSc material concept Scalmalloy^® has proven during the last 5 years impressing strength properties when processed in laser powderbed-fusion. Depending on chemistry more than 600 N/mm² ultimate tensile strength together with a safe 10% fracture elongation are reliably possible. However laser based processing (melting) remains to be challenging. Consequently improved alloys concepts have been deduced to overcome those shortcomings. The presentation will highlight such approaches and their first results.
