Additive Manufacturing is being identified by governments across the globe as an opportunity and threat. This has led to many national initiatives to develop AM. For example, what has been called ‘America Makes’ in the USA. Although many of these initiatives contain very valuable recommendations, it could be viewed that few really contain a truly comprehensive and connected National Strategy.

The AM UK strategy team consulted a wide range of stakeholders, including hundreds of direct engagements and thousands of online interactions. This was not restricted to purely technical endeavours, Financing, Licensing, Standards and other areas were covered to ensure an understanding of the whole exploitation landscape. This produced a large amount of data, from all levels within business and academia, that has been condensed into an overall approach and a series of recommendations.

This presentation will cover the work carried out by AM UK to develop such a comprehensive and connected National AM strategy, to optimise the exploitation of AM for the UK.
