With REACH and similar regulations limiting the use of Hexavalent Chromium compounds, UTC-UTAS has developed a chromate-free epoxy primer for use in the protection of cadmium (Cd) and zinc-nickel (Zn-Ni) plated low alloy steels. This primer incorporates EcosSky™ pigment, a patented anti-corrosion technology developed by UTC. This presentation will go over the tools and process used to develop the anti-corrosion additives and the testing to optimize their release and corrosion performance. Results of laboratory tests for corrosion and fluid resistance, adhesion, impact and rain erosion over Cd and Zn-Ni plating will be presented. Additionally, two-year Beachfront and two-year Field Trials on Landing Gear components will be unveiled.
