The incorporation of newly developed Additive Manufacturing Technologies to the materials development capacity of Rovalma, enables the realization of complex topologically optimized structures with new materials concepts for the achievement of extreme light weight construction in a very cost-effective manner. Unprecedented normalized trough density stiffness (100 Kpsi * ft3 /lb) and yield strength values can be achieved together with high elongation and damage tolerance with metal-based solutions at very low-density levels and in an isotropic manner.
A new Additive Manufacturing technology has been developed for some applications requiring large components (up to 10 ft cube), where isotropy is relevant and where high mechanical resistance or resistance against wear has to be combined with high fracture resistance which remains quite challenging to attain through traditional metal additive manufacturing and even more so when thermal management is also significant to the performance of the component. Some examples of new materials concepts will be provided, which further enhance the attainable properties.
