QualityAssuranceSolutions for DED(Direct Energy Deposition) Additive manufacturing applications.

Abstract:

Based on different quality needs in the Aerospace and Aviation industry different machine learning and statistical process control approaches are presented for the Additive manufacturing DED process.

Quality inspection is a necessary tool for additive manufacturing and it's absolutely necessary for the acceptance of this new production technique in the Aerospace/Aviation industry.

Quality inspection for additive manufacturing gives a value to different user’s groups and their readiness level, beginners, process development, serial production and scaling of systems.

The presentation gives an overview and practical examples of quality inspection technologies covering all aspects of QAS for DED(Direct Energy Deposition) Additive manufacturing .

Examples of different QAS for the DED process with different Energy sources, f.e. Laser beam (LB), Electron beam (EB) and Arc plasma(GTA, GMA, PTA) and the feedstock(wire/powder) for the deposition of different materials used in the Aerospace/Aviation industry.

In the DED( Direct Energy Deposition process), plasmo systems enable the detection of process irregularities through sensor- and camera-based technologies (processobserver, plasmoeye, profileobserver/3Dobserver). In addition, processing positions as well as plant and process parameters are recorded.
