With Plasma Metal Deposition (PMD) we have developed a directed energy deposition technology that allows in-situ material development by tuning compositions on-the-fly. The technology has already shown results for light alloy materials (e.g. Titanium, Aluminium. Magnesium), Metal Matrix Composites (high thermal and high stiffness composites), amorphous structures metals as well as high entropy alloys.

All kinds of common metals like steels, nickel alloys, aluminum . Ti64 and other standard materials for the Aerospace / Aviation can be successfully processed.

The AM Machine „M3DP“ manufactured by SBI GmbH bases on high-tech Plasma welding and allows to feed wire as well as powder feedstocks, individually and simultaneously.

The presentation not only focuses on the technology and the PMD process but also on applications already realized for various fields of usage like Aerospace, Energy, Optical Industries or Electronics.

This technology is a smart and cost efficient way to develop and test new alloys, new material properties and new innovative ideas, and it is capable to manufacture industrial grady parts for direct usage and performance confirmation within the application. The part sizes are beyond recent possibilities of a powder bed technology.
