The completely new established process chain in AMAG’s new mill No. 2 has made it possible to produce aluminum Alclad 2024 skin quality sheets with a width of up to 2.100 mm for the aircraft industry. Each process parameter in cladding, hot and cold rolling, temperature treatment and finalizing was precisely defined by repeated calculations and verification trials. After numerous tests in internal and external laboratories, it was shown that the AMAG AL4 aero 2024.HDT aircraft skin quality sheets fulfill the highest market surface and properties requirements in tempers T3, T351, F/O and T42. Hence, the results of the damage tolerant material characterizations are shown, such as fatigue, crack propagation and R-curve measurements.

AMAG aircraft sheets are well known in the market and the capabilities and processing properties have been successfully proven over many years of serial production. This new process development in the mill No. 2 extends the AMAG aircraft product portfolio with larger dimensions without loss to the excellent processing properties of the AMAG sheets.
