The Metallic Materials Properties Development and Standardization (MMPDS) Handbook is a continuation of a long-established handbook (MIL-HDBK-5), which is the world-wide preeminent source of metallic material allowables since the 1950s. The MMPDS process and guidelines were developed for traditional sheet-plate-bar stock alloys. However, with the introduction of emerging materials and process, such as additive manufacturing (AM), it was recognized that the existing guidelines and requirements were not sufficient to adequately address the process sensitive nature of these new materials. So the MMPDS consortium set off to establish MMPDS Volume II dedicated to process sensitive metallic materials like AM. This presentation will provide an overview of the current status and plans for Volume II. Topics will include the framework for the new volume, data submission requirements, and expectations for published allowables, including further showing considerations.
