Balancing the Many Expectations on the Material Producer

Wednesday, March 12, 2024 | 10:20 am – 12:00 pm | Exhibit Hall – Industry Forum

Material producers are confronted with a wide range of conflicting expectations from their customer base, financial markets, government bodies and wider society, including for example:

  • Shifting to a steep manufacturing ramp-up with stable quality at the lowest cost to satisfy the soaring production rates of OEMs after a period of reduced product demand
  • Improving the sustainability of their supply chain and manufacturing processes (clean supply chain and energy supply, avoidance of critical substances and raw materials, carbon neutral transport etc.)
  • Providing resources and engineering capabilities to develop tomorrow’s high performance materials

These requirements are sometimes in conflict but, in any case, may exceed the capacities and resource availabilities of the material suppliers. If they say “No” to any of the requirements, they risk being excluded from potential business opportunities. Alas, how can we break the vicious circle?
