Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) is a new sector of the aerospace industry targeting use of electric aircraft to transport people and cargo at low altitudes and over relatively short distances. Its progress is being driven by factors such as sustainability, urban congestion, passenger convenience, and improvements in autonomous flying technology.

The major players in this market, including start-ups and well-established aerospace companies, are investing billions of dollars to revolutionize urban transportation and logistics. Several companies are close to achieving certification of their aircraft by aviation authorities.

Constellium is a global leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance aluminum and is a trusted partner for demanding industries, including commercial aircraft, space, military vehicles, and automotive. Constellium is dedicated to innovation through research and development and this, coupled with a strong commitment to sustainability, has drawn the attention of Advanced Air Mobility manufacturers.

Material choices will play a crucial role in these AAM aircraft, influencing weight, range, durability and energy efficiency. Innovative, high-performance materials are needed to ensure the aircraft performance, cost-effectiveness and overall feasibility for industrial production and commercial use. Advanced aluminum products, including aluminum-lithium materials, will be used for selected applications in the airframe of AAM vehicles. This presentation will include an overview of the AAM market trajectory, review some of the advanced products being evaluated and adopted along with an explanation of their beneficial attributes.
