PRIME Surface Coating- A Novel Technique of Applying Thick Ceramic Coatings

M. Kashefi, J. L. Henshall, B. Hull, The Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham, United Kingdom

The present study has extended the application of the PRIME technology to the manufacture of robust surface coatings. In essence, the PRIME method uses a dispersion of a powder in a cyanoacrylate based matrix. The coating is applied in its liquid state. Debinding and sintering are carried out following polymerization of the mixture.

Summary: Protective coating of components, especially by the application of a film containing ceramic particles, is one of the most rapidly changing technologies. The PRIME method, primary developed for making ceramic parts, has been used as the main process for making coating mixtures.
