Summary: Vacuum carburizing has come a long way over the last 30 to 35 years. Major advances in furnace design and construction, new carburizing compounds such as acetylene and cyclohexane, lowering of operating pressures, and improved delivery systems have revolutionized the industry. This talk will explore how modern vacuum carburizing has tackled difficult to carburize materials such as M-50 NiL, unusual part geometries, as well as common fair materials such as 8620.
