View in WORD format

Summary: This paper will describe the theoretical basis, implementation, and experience of an on-line mathematical model used in the process of continuous annealing stainless steel strips. This model determines furnace set points and line speeds during steady state and transient conditions to maintain product quality and maximize production. Advantages of Math Model control versus conventional operator control will also be presented.
