Summary: Induction Temper systems have been used on many applications such as pipe, tube and bar for decades. Recent customer demands for tempering within work cells have resulted in several new concepts and machine designs. The major advantage of induction tempering is that it greatly reduces the number of parts in process.
A variety of induction techniques are considered when reviewing the part configuration, part production rate and heat treat requirements. In some cases, the same equipment used for hardening can be used for tempering however this impacts production. In many recent installations, separate induction temper station(s) have been considered to provide induction temper that matches the hardening production.
This paper will discuss the various types of tempering, advantages, Induction Tempering concepts and applications.
