Application of Metal Lined Furnace Technology To Low Temperature Processes

D. E. Goodman, Surface Combustion, Inc., Maumee, OH

View in WORD format

Summary: The use of insulation in furnace designs is a well known practice and many technologies and materials have been previously discussed. Presenting low temperature furnaces of a metal lined construction with all of the advantages and efficiencies of an insulated furnace design without the disadvantages of insulation contamination, damage or degradation. Parts which contain residual oils, powder metal parts, or steels and nonferrous materials which are sensitive to residual water and oxygen content can benefit by this "inside-out" furnace technology. This presentation will focus on tempering, steam treating, and vacuum processing.
